Princess & the Pantry: For the Love of Salad

So, by now you should know that I love Ball jars. But remember? We agreed to call them Mason jars because of the whole 'scream-out-inappropriate-but-accidental-word-choices' thing. There's nothing a good Mason jar can't do. Except maybe to bring me a husband. {C'mon Mason jars, he's out there somewhere!}

You know what I haven't loved? Salad.

I have done very few things for 10 years

Throughout the day, I often think about life in a series of blog posts. 'Oooh, that would be funny on the P' or 'I could turn that pic into a post'
I mean, I found these in a parking space one time. C'mon people! Doesn't a blog post just spring to mind?!

But then life happens and I don't. Or I sit down to write it and it seems silly to even put it into black & white.

That Place

As always, I arrive a little late to the party. What's it been, half a year since I've seen you guys? Wow. Well, I somewhat have a reason for being absent...and I'm also somewhat lazy. Put the two together and my blog is like a Floridian retirement village. I'll try to see you more than when the weather is nice.

In honor of April being National Poetry Month (see? I told you I'm late to the party. But I'm inb4 May One, so I'm good.), I wanted to share a poem I wrote this past fall. I submitted it to a local writing/art group called spiderweb salon and they published it. I didn't actually see it published or get a copy of the publication, but I trust they had no reason to lie. I'm 92% sure it's in there.

Point being, I write quite a bit of poetry but most doesn't see the light outside my journal or chicken scratch post-its by my bed. I usually get an entire poem in my head at 2 am and I have to get it out before my brain explodes. Therefore, some of it is complete crap. Some is personal. Some is shareable (I think.)

       That Place

Life’s a series of colorfully bland scenes
With each take increasingly dulled
By the monotony of all worthwhile tasks
Through litanies the heart now hulled

Draw deeper in for blushing flesh
It beats in faithful accord
But wonders when the clock strikes time
With severance it gathers reward

Now dreams press in and demand the turn
Their residence brings confusion
To keep in step or cut the rope?
Choice feels a grand illusion

Like father and child making plans
She stretches to secure her greed
His noble and abiding thoughts
Hemming her safely between want and need

I'll spare you the poetry analysis (my mom said it kinda made her head hurt)...this poem was written when I was thinking about wanting to pursue dreams but not be a brat about having to participate in the workaday world.

If you are interested, you can read some of my previous poems.

Hope to see y'all again soon!

A Tale of Two Princesses

Once upon a time (let’s be honest, it was like 12 years ago), a delightful girl decided to teach overseas. She raised a bunch of money and went to training and wondered who she’d meet in this new adventure. Delightful could've sworn it'd be a husband, but God had other plans. The first night, she met this really cool gal with blonde hair and a sparkly personality. They connected quickly and deeply as friends and each thought the other girl was so cool that she couldn’t possibly want to stay friends over the long haul. But boy, were they both wrong.

Um, hey

Dear Blog,

Um, hey there. It's been a while. I wish I had a good excuse for avoiding you like a bad setup but I don't. I had some disappointments this spring and I let that get in the way of our relationship. For that, I am sorry. To be honest, I think we take it out on those who are closest to us, because you've been nothing but supportive and amazing {except for allowing those spammers to constantly comment on you...that was pretty low, blog.}

I promise to catch up soon {boy, do I have loads to tell you!} but I just wanted to come say hello and that I've been thinking about ya. You know I have issues with proper time management, but that's no excuse for ignoring an old friend. I am trying to think of how to word what's been going on with me...I'm gettin' close to figuring that out. When I do, you'll be the first to know. Pinky swear.

Glad we could break the ice like this and it was really good to see you again, P. You always did have a way with the fonts.

With love,
K
